When a person responds with faith, perseverance, and trust in Hashem, the barriers hiding God's light are removed, allowing a deeper connection and awareness of the Divine to emerge.

The Six Levels of Divine Service

The verse in Deuteronomy describes six stages in a person's spiritual journey:

A person begins by contemplating the greatness of creation and recognizing that the entire universe is a reflection of God's infinite light. This awareness awakens love and a desire to come closer to Him.

Beyond love is the recognition of God's infinite greatness. This creates a deeper sense of humility, reverence, and awe before the Creator.

▶ 3. "Keep His Commandments" — Connecting Through Mitzvot

The mitzvot create a powerful connection between the soul and Hashem. However, this connection must be protected by avoiding actions that weaken the soul's spiritual sensitivity.

▶ 4. "Obey His Voice" — The Power of Torah Study

Torah is the eternal wisdom of God. Through Torah learning, a person connects with Divine wisdom that remains pure and unchanged despite the challenges of this world.

▶ 5. "Serve Him" — Serving Hashem With Complete Dedication

True service means following God's will not only when everything is understood, but also with the humility and commitment of a devoted servant who trusts the Master completely.

▶ 6. "Cling to Him" — Achieving Complete Connection With God

The ultimate goal is deveikutClinging to Hashem; the complete unification of one's thoughts, speech, and actions with the Divine—clinging to Hashem. Through love, fear, Torah study, and mitzvot, a person's thoughts, speech, and actions become united with God.
